Ibiza By Night meets APOLLONIA: the exclusive interview!

There are artists and artists that make the difference.

Apollonia are artists that we follow & appreciate since years, their sound is absolutely cool & classy. They are protagonists of Ibiza 2019 with a party Planet Claire  at Octan (ex Sankeys Ibiza) every Sunday until 29th September.

Ibiza By Night met Apollonia for an exclusive interview that was, believe us, truly interesting.

IBN: Let’s talk about Ibiza. Was it always a dream to have a residency here? Was it something that nearly happened before?

APOLLONIA: “We’ve been visiting the island for over 20 years now. Dan has been resident at Circoloco for over 15 years. Individually, and as Apollonia, we’ve been very fortunate to play at the best parties on the island. We’ve been residents at Circoloco, we play Music On and many of the other great parties here. Hosting our own residency is a natural evolution for us, it’s like a culmination of all the work we’ve been doing on the island over the years. Before we were part of the party and now we’re the ones who provide the party, provide the vibe and provide the sound. We’re inviting people into our universe and we’re leading the night. It’s a nice feeling to be doing this. We’re working really closely with the owner of Octan, we share a similar vision, which is to bring it all back to the roots of Ibiza.”

IBN: What do you think is the most rewarding aspect of having a residency in Ibiza?

APOLLONIA:The great thing about a residency is that you have a foundation to build on. Step by step you can refine the way you present yourself and your party. You get to know the club intimately, the sound system, the lighting, the dance floor, the acoustics – and, of course, the crowd. You tailor the environment to your advantage and, when the party is going well, you really feel the energy from the people. That’s very rewarding because you are responsible for that atmosphere. It’s nice to have this opportunity to work with someone who trusts you, who you can work with closely and try to bring something different to the island – which is our own unique touch.”

IBN: How does living here all summer-long change your perception of the island?

APOLLONIA:It’s like living anywhere for a longer period of time, you start to know your locality much better. You know where to go to get your repairs done, where’s good to eat and drink… all the little things that make a place feel like home, like your own neighbourhood. Living in Ibiza doesn’t mean you’re always partying though. Most of the people who come here of course, they’re here for that, but we’re also working while we’re here. For example, with Planet Claire we are doing meetings all the time, working closely with the club and their staff on everything from marketing to acoustics and sound. Working in the sun might sound like it’s a vacation but when our friends come and see what we get up to they realise that’s it not one big holiday. Obviously working in the sun is better than working in the rain, though!”

IBN: Let’s talk about Planet Claire. How did the project start? And what’s the idea behind the concept? The name’s a B52 reference, right?

APOLLONIA: “Last year we played at Sankeys, which is now Octan. We really enjoyed our set, the room was perfect for what we do and the seed was planted. Afterwards we thought it would be cool to play somewhere every week, in a room that suits us. Yeah the song is by the B52s, the sound is psychedelic, and kinda punk, we really like it. It’s got a great vibe and the name works really well for our night because it doesn’t fit into the typical kind of name that a lot of club nights use. It’s quite unique.

IBN: What else have you guys got coming up? Should we be looking out for more music on the label etc?

APOLLONIA:At the moment we’re focusing on the residency. We’ve all been working on music, individually and together, but we’ve been working a lot on Planet Claire so you’ll have to watch this space for future music…

Thanks Apollonia!
