Ibiza in winter…a paradise to discover. We said it several times, and now you can read the reportage realized by our dear Emma Manley...
“So, you may have heard the rumours that Ibiza is dead in the winter. It’s all shut up, there’s no parties anymore, there’s nowhere to go, nothing to see….
Well, I’m here to tell you that I think that’s a little white lie, made up by the people who live here and work so hard during the summer months, to put you off coming so they can have some time off and recover from all the fun you had whilst you were here!!
Of course, the majority of the big clubs are closed over winter but Pacha is always open at weekends, and there are other great venues such as Paradise Lost that will most definitely have you up until the very small hours of the morning if that’s your scene.
If you are lucky enough to be able to make it over for a weekend, ours usually go a bit like this…
Friday nights we like to start the weekend off at Vino y Co. This is a wine shop by day, owned and run by a fabulous Dutch family who on Friday evenings, during winter, host a wine tasting and tapas evening. Every week they select different wines that they stock so you can buy them by the glass to try alongside various tapas dishes (to ensure you’re not drinking on an empty stomach!). This evening attracts a great International crowd so it’s the ideal place to make new friends too!
After this, it’s either on to Sushipoint Ibiza which is so much more than just somewhere to eat Sushi!! With different DJ’s playing throughout winter at weekends, it’s a fabulous place to drink cocktails and dance your cares away from the week.
Very close is also Pacha which I mentioned previously, with fantastic DJ’s playing every Friday and Saturday night, so you’ll definitely still be getting your fix of a ‘big’ club.
After a night like that, brunch is most definitely calling on a Saturday!
Luckily for us, Passion Cafe in Marina Botafoch remains open all year round, as does the one in Santa Eularia so you can soothe your hangover with all manner of scrummy and healthy food and drink. Another alternative is Cappuccino in Marina Botafoch that has the most fabulous views of Ibiza Town, and there are, of course, many other places on the rest of the Island.
As it’s Saturday, a spot of shopping is in order too. All of the high street shops are open all year round in Ibiza Town so you’re still spoiled for choice even if the artisanal shops remain closed until Spring. When refreshments are required after such a busy day, you can pop on over to the glorious Cafe Montesol which opened after a refurbishment last summer. A stop off here for a quick G & T or glass of wine is most definitely the order of the day to revive yourself and give your feet a chance to rest. Food is also served throughout the day so if you’re feeling a bit peckish, a few tapas should sort you out nicely.
For dinner on Saturday night, there are still so many options, I’m not sure I can list them all here or pick a favourite! La Dispensa in Dalt Villa is one fabulous choice though if you are looking to soak up the heritage of this wonderful UNESCO site. It is also open for lunch as well as brunch on a Sunday.
